WALTZ

In a family Bible, Carol's family had written pieces of information relative to the Hamricks etc. In addition, there were a number of newspaper articles on several Waltzs. Unfortunately, it was not obvious to us how the people mentioned in the articles fit into Carol's family, namely Mahala Waltz who married John Rainsberger. I printed a number of pages from the FHC, e.g., IGIs and family group records, in hopes of identifying her family. I also printed a number of pages of emigration listings, families with a Mahala Waltz, and Waltzs taking an oath of allegiance. I also printed some Roots-web postings that describe the Rinard family tree. (These postings are of potential interest as the parents of Carol's Mahala were a Samuel Waltz and Barbara Rinard. Unfortunately, I did not find a link.) From this I was able to piece together parts of the Waltz family, but not with a great deal of confidence. However, a Bill Dixon helped me greatly by sending me a chart that showed the Descendants of Simon P Waltz, which includes Mahala Waltz, the Waltz members mentioned in the newspaper articles, and a number of others found in my printouts. Samuel Waltz's father was Simon P Waltz.

Recently, I found a book, “Waltz Family History” by L. Waltz, published 1884, in Dayton , Ohio. This book states that Frederick Reinhart Waltz was the first member of the family to come to America, about 1731 from Switzerland. The author claims that a son, John Reinhart Waltz came to America on the Phoenix, October 20, 1744. John’s children are presented and there is some discussion about the relationship between a Simon P and a Samuel Waltz. When I combine this uncertainty with information from the Alsbaugh family research which has a daughter, Charity, married to a Reinhart Waltz, but with the name Martin Reinhart Waltz, I must conclude that the family line is a best guess. I have not found any other definitive discussion that includes all factors. I have a transcription of a Will signed by a Waltz; the transcription states that the only portion of he signature that is legible is Waltz, but the will is attributed to Reinhart Waltz – a John Reinhart Waltz who married to Charity Waltz.
