Dear Jonathan,
I have made a new copy of the almost illegible record from the
church in Alsace and have translated it into English. I copied
most of the typographical errors just as they appeared on the copy
from Alsace. In the English version, I translated the name of Jean
to John on the last 2 pages but did not do so on the first page.
I did organize the names and families from this record but do not
have it in order to type out as yet. I will be gone a week again
to Wisconsin so that my work will be delayed again. When I get it
all organized and typed out, I will send you a copy of that. In
the meantime you can study the information from this source.
Note that there are only 3 sons of Pierre Runser mentioned who
are the ones to come to America. Seraphim, Fridolin, and Jean
George. Jean George did definitely come in 1832 according to the
inscription in a book which mentions his travelling to america
with his "numerous family" whatever that meant. It may have meant
that he had many children or that he went to America with the
other two brothers and their family which then constituted a
numerous family. I must see a copy of that book.
I did locate Robert Runser in Michigan who has the records that
William collected and I will get as much information as I can
from that source and forward it to you. My Summer is going to be
very busy with family coming to visit most of the summer and much
work to be done at my cottage in Wisconsin.
I do not have time to comment on the items in your last letter now
as must hurry to get ready to leave for Wisconsin today.
Note the many ways the Runser name is spelled even in the same
family and for the same person. In my side have one document
with the spelling of Runcer. I have found some Runtz and Runcie
names in the phone books and wonder if they are derived form the
name Runser but that will have to wait till we get all the known
Runsers in order.
I do hope to plan a trip to Ada to iron out some of the problems
but that will have to wait till after summer is over. I will also
try to visit Robert in Michigan. For your information his address
is:
Sincerely,
Bob Runser
